Vintage Amber Tinted Guitar Lacquer
Musical instrument finishes made simple! The ColorTone® Tinted Aerosol Guitar Lacquer line is ideal for both touch-up work and finishing an entire instrument. Formulated specifically for musical instruments, these fast-drying, alcohol and water-resistant lacquers are supplied in 13-ounce spray cans.
Tinted and sunbursted nitrocellulose lacquer finishes have never gone out of style, and now you can achieve these beautiful traditional colors that enhance the wood grain without the need for complicated spray equipment. The ColorTone® Tinted Aerosol Guitar Lacquer can be sprayed directly over smooth, unfinished wood, sanded basecoats of grain filler, ColorTone nitrocellulose Sanding Sealer, and even ColorTone Stains.
For a hard, durable finish with a deep gloss, simply apply additional coats of the ColorTone Clear Aerosol Guitar Lacquer. Aerosol spraying is an economical way for beginners to apply a finish, although the resulting surface may be slightly rougher than that achieved with spray guns, potentially requiring more sanding of the clear topcoats to achieve a level finish. Tinted coats, however, should not be sanded.
To ensure the best results, we recommend spraying multiple thin coats in a low-humidity environment. The heavy-bodied Sanding Sealer (one coat equals two coats of lacquer) should be used to seal stained or unstained wood before applying the color coats or clear topcoats. Generally, at least one can of Sanding Sealer and 4-6 cans of lacquer will be required to finish a complete guitar.
It's important to use warm lacquer, not cold, as cold lacquer can spatter, leading to the need for additional sanding. To ensure your aerosol lacquer is at the optimal temperature, simply soak the cans in a sink of warm tap water before use, just like the pro shops do when spraying heated lacquer.
