Create your own goldtop guitar with ColorTone Metallic Aerosols! These are not your typical hardware store colors - we have specially formulated them to match well-known and iconic guitar finishes. Spraying a metallic finish has never been easier, as these aerosols require no metal powders to mix and won't clog your spray gun.
Goldtops can vary significantly in color depending on their age and condition, so we offer three distinct shades of gold to choose from: Pale Gold, which gives a slightly faded look reminiscent of years spent in a pawn shop window; Pure Gold, a vibrant and lustrous yellow-gold; and Antique Gold, a richer, more aged appearance. We also have a Silver option to recreate the look of Fender's classic Inca Silver finish.
ColorTone Metallic Aerosols are the simplest way to achieve a high-quality metallic finish. Just spray them directly over ColorTone White Vinyl Sealer, or apply them to smooth, unfinished wood or grain filler. For a durable, glossy topcoat, follow up with additional layers of ColorTone Clear Aerosol Guitar Lacquer. Important note: metallic coats should not be sanded.
To get the best results, we recommend spraying multiple thin, even coats in a low humidity environment. Apply a coat of our Heavy-bodied Sanding Sealer first (one coat is equivalent to two coats of lacquer) to seal the wood before adding your color and clear topcoats. You'll typically need at least one can of Sanding Sealer, and 4-6 cans of lacquer to complete an entire guitar.
One final pro tip: use warm lacquer, not cold. Cold lacquer can cause spattering, which then requires extra sanding. Simply soak your aerosol cans in a sink of warm tap water to bring the lacquer up to the ideal temperature before spraying.
