Bright Gold Metallic Aerosol Guitar Lacquer
The easiest way to spray a metallic finish is with ColorTone® Metallic Aerosols - no metal powders to mix, and no clogged spray guns. These aerosols are not your typical hardware store colors; we have formulated them to match well-known guitar finishes. Create your own goldtop guitar with our selection of three shades of gold, varying in color depending on age and condition. Also available in Silver to recreate the look of Fender's Inca Silver finish.
Spray the metallic coats over ColorTone White Vinyl Sealer for best results. They can also be applied directly over smooth unfinished wood or grain filler. For a hard, durable finish with a deep gloss, spray additional coats of ColorTone Clear Aerosol Guitar Lacquer. Importantly, the metallic coats should not be sanded.
Our application tips recommend spraying multiple thin coats in a low humidity environment. Using Heavy-bodied Sanding Sealer (one coat equals two coats of lacquer) will seal the stained or unstained wood before applying the color coats or clear topcoats. As a general guideline, at least one can of Sanding Sealer and 4-6 cans of lacquer will usually finish a complete guitar.
For optimal results, use warm lacquer, not cold. Pro shops spray heated lacquer because cold lacquer spatters, requiring extra sanding. You can easily warm up your aerosol lacquer by soaking the cans in a sink of warm tap water.
